After the Moroccan interior ministry had decided to sue the daily Akhbar Al Yawm for publishing a cartoon on a Moroccan Prince’s wedding, the first instance court in Casablanca handed down a four-year suspended sentence to the director and cartoonist of the newspaper.
The director was charged for “participating in insulting the national flag” and “lack of respect to the prince” while the cartoonist was charged for “insulting the flag” and “lack of respect to the prince.”
The court also ordered them to pay three million dirhams for damages and to publish a verdict in four national newspapers.
